Seyyed Zia Nabavi has suffered a nervous breakdown in Evin prison

RAHANA – Seyyed Zia Nabavi has suffered a nervous breakdown in Evin prison. The nervous attack worsened to the extent that Nabavi lost his voice and could not speak for a few hours. His cell mates attempted to control his blood pressure by giving him sugar and water. A few hours later, prison officials [finally] transferred him to the prison clinic.

According to a source, doctors state that Nabavi is currently in critical condition and that the attack may lead to immune system failure.

According to Daneshjoo News, Nabavi, the spokesman for the Right to Education Council, was detained on June 15, 2009 by Intelligence agents. Authorities have prevented him from visiting his family for the past year. The judge has [threatened] Nabavi’s family that they should not prepare the bail money and if they fail to abide, the bail amount will increase from 500 million tomans (approx. $500,000 USD) to 800 million tomans(approx. $800,000 USD). It is important to note that Nabavi’s family has asked the judge to reduce the bail since they cannot afford the original amount.

Nabavi was detained in solitary confinement for 98 days. During his interrogations, he was under pressure to confess that he was persuaded by the MKO to participate in the presidential campaign of a reformist candidate.

Nabavi who scored in the top 10 on the Master’s exam, was attending Babol Noshirvani University of Technology. He was deprived of continuing his education by Ahmadinejad’s government.
